A few months ago I provided stepwise illustrated instructions for forming the slip knot. This is a variation of the Basic Slip Knot instructions discussed earlier. Some people find this method easier to remember. I used a variegated yarn that is green on the left and yellow on the right side to describe the process.

The single crochet stitch produces a compact fabric. Fabric appearance and elasticity can be varied by passing the crochet hook through front, back or both legs of the prior row's stitch. The turning chain for a single crochet is 1 stitch.

Double crochet a taller stitch than half-double crochet, or single crochet and produces a looser fabric. This stitch is used in filet crochet, borders and laces. Fabrics have excellent drape and sweaters work up quickly in double crochet.

The slip stitch produces a dense, firm fabric. It is often used to reinforce an edge in crocheted or knitted work. If creating a border, add extra stitches in the corner stitch, to compensate for the extra travel required to get to the next stitch. The basic slip stitch is created by passing the crochet hook under both legs of the stitch from the prior row.
