My mother-in-law, Margaret, framed one of her favorite sayings with a black and red border of Ukrainian cross stitch on 14 count, Aida cloth. The piece measures 9" wide by 7" tall, with the cross stitch comprising 7-3/8" x 5-3/8". The inspiration for this border came from glass coffee mugs, a cheese plate, and salt and pepper "eggs" decorated with a Ukrainian cross stitch pattern.

Not only was this a quick and easy kit, but it required only 6 colors and the border added unique character to the piece. Read more .....

I made a large, stained glass window of a rooster and chick for my parents, also with a chicken wire background. In keeping with the theme, the following year's gift, was this cross stitch hen and rooster, designed by Lois Thompson. I liked it so much, that I made a hen and rooster for myself as well. Theirs was framed with a more classic frame and mat; I had a frame and used three mats to fit the piece to the frame.
