Elbow Repair

This was a favorite lambswool sweater of my husband and I was going to felt it, since I didn't have needles fine enough for this gauge --that is until I discovered HIYA HIYAs. As they say, "the rest is history." As soon as they arrived, I decided to try my new HIYA HIYA circular needles on a patch and graft repair. Even though my husband had plenty of other sweaters, he watched the progress of the repair closely, and plucked this comfy sweater from the laundry basket as soon as it had been repaired and laundered.

Grandmaman's Carding Tools

My grandmother used to card, spin and dye her own sock yarn. As a child my father helped her spin yarn and knit socks as well. I found it exciting to hold and learn about the carders that both my grandmother and father used. My father has kept these wood, steel and leather carders, along with my grandmother's spinning wheel and skein winder. I am looking forward to spending a few days with my father learning how to spin wool. Read more....

Point Protector Set

The "How-to: J-hook Cable Needle" video featured in Sunday's article also introduced a tool that, strictly speaking, I haven't used before: the point protector. The tip for using point protectors in conjunction with cable knitting came from Shilda, who took up knitting a few months ago, and has already knitted more than 12 cabled wrist warmers in a rainblow of hues, and a headband and legwarmers in a matching hugs and kisses cable pattern.
