Patons Crochet
Shell Although I was inspired and captivated by Patons' refreshing top "Simple Sophisticate, " I made a few design changes to create a version to wear to work with a pencil skirt or dress pants and a suit jacket. The cool cotton, contrasting horizontal bands and vertical stripes are what give this top its freshness. In keeping with the nautical theme, I paired the shell stitch pattern with a boatneck collar. Since I already had a number of tops with cap sleeves, I modified the sleeves and echoed the waistband styling in the cuffs. In the version at right, I maintained high waist styling, however the waistband is shorter and doesn't extend as far up the torso. These design changes were made to complement the suit jacket. The styling influence was 50's fitted suits.
