The Rochester Paint Creek Walkway garden, just west of the Rochester Public Library is a compact island of calm complete with an impressive rose hedge, water garden, fox sculpture, peonies, balloon flowers, sweet william, pansies and other flowers in bloom. At the garden center is a majestic bronze fox, reminiscent of ancient Egyptian sculptures.
Larches remind me of home and my mother. Mom and dad planted them around our family home, to remind her of the home she grew up in, an ancestral home that is a long ways from where my parents live. Their stand of about forty, fifty foot tall larches looks resplendent and majestic in autumn, when the gold foliage catches the sun, so I also planted some - to bring a bit of my parents' home to our neighborhood. This young tree that I planted about 3 years ago is just beginning to develop its autumn colors.

It just took some below 50 F weather for the full color of the Autumn Joy Sedum to develop. Click on the thumbnails to see larger versions of the images and to read the captions for the summer and early autumn photos. Left to right 2nd month of autumn, summer, first days of autumn.
This sumac was one of the few perennials showing strong autumn colors along the Paint Creek Trail. The weather is supposed to cool down in the next few days so maybe by next weekend the colors will be in their autumn prime.
