Snapper SunningWhile we were cutting lawn Sunday afternoon, Shaq, our GSP, gave a single "alert" bark, looked at me and then pointed at our neighbor's yard. A snapping turtle, with a shell almost 1 foot long, was sunning itself a body length inside the fence line. I thanked him for notifying us of the visitor and ran to the house to get a camera. I took a few pictures and then went back to lawn cutting. Shaq went back to lookout duty, a role he took on after we adopted him.
GSPsWe had to laugh at the unintended consequence of photographing the fun fur scarf and red coat. I hung the coat on the back fence to get good light for a photograph. The two dogs, who hadn't seen me go around the back, were soon barking and pointing at -- the coat.
Not until they came up and detected my scent on the coat did they determine it wasn't some strange new animal and start wagging their tails.
