Shaq and I went out to pick up the mail. My route is more direct than his, as he waters plants and trees on the way to the mailbox. On his first stop, he flushed out a garter snake; both the dog and the snake were momentarily surprised and froze. Read more ....
This morning at 6:30 I saw a wonderful sight -- a flock of wild turkeys and their young in our front yard. There were 4 adults (at least one male) and about a dozen young, hunting for insects. This year there seem to be more youngsters in our yard, from bunnies, to deer, to birds, due in part to the trees (cover) we've planted and our organic gardening approach. A family of 5, two adults and 3 children, was enjoying the children's area of the Ontario Science Center this past Sunday. The 3 children on the far side were captivated by the profilometer and left varying impressions right until closing time. Other families and children were similarly engaged with the many other fun science exhibits.

This looks like a month for new visitors. The flock of ducks in our yard grew to somewhere between 50 and 100 and the layover lasted 3 days, by which time the unseasonable weather passed, the seasonal pond was a puddle and the permanent ponds and small lakes in the neighborhood were beginning to thaw.
