Purl Stitch Bind Off

The purl stitch bind off is ideal for a garter stitch fabric and may be a counterintuitive choice if you created the fabric by knitting all rows. The photo at left shows how the unobtrusive purl bind off completes and complements the garter stitch fabric. Read more .... for illustrated instructions for the purl stitch bind off.

Step by Step Instructions (photos below)

  1. Step 1. Prepare to purl the next stitch by inserting the right hand (rh) needle into 1st stitch on left hand (lh) needle and yarn over.
  2. Step 2. The yarn has been drawn through to form the purl stitch. Use the rh needle to pull the stitch from lh needle.
  3. Step 3a. Use the lh needle to lift the stitch furthest in from the point of the rh needle over the stitch closest to the point of the rh needle.
  4. Step 3b. Stitch has been lifted over.
  5. Step 3c. Left hand needle withdrawn, leaving 1 stitch on rh needle. Repeat steps 1-3 until 1 st remains on the rh needle.
  6. Step 4. Cut the yarn and pull it through the stitch loop. Leave sufficient length to weave in the yarn end.
