I tried 3 different cast offs for the basic toe up sock to see which one I liked best for the spring green sock. The crochet cast off and the basic cast off look similar. Here is a brief description of the crochet cast off method.
- Use a 2.5 mm crochet hook or whatever diameter creates the correct tension. Although I knitted the 2x2 rib with a 2.5 mm knitting needle, I found that I had to use a larger diameter crochet needle, 3.0 mm, to achieve a sufficiently loose tension.
- Insert the hook knitwise through the first loop on needle #1, draw the loop through and pull it off the knitting needle.
- Insert the hook knitwise through the next loop on the knitting needle, draw the loop through both the loop on the knitting needle and the loop on the crochet needle.
- Repeat the previous step until all loops from both knitting needles have been worked.
- Draw the yarn through the final loop on the crochet needle and weave in the yarn.
