Leaf Stitch PatternThe leaf-patterned baby bonnet uses the first 24 stitches of the pattern discussed in the spreadsheet article. The pattern has a garter stitch ground (not stockinette stitch), but is otherwise the Madeira Leaf Stitch border described in A Treasury of Knitting Patterns. The garter stitch background is integral to the design, enhancing the lustre of this yarn.
I would recommend that if you are going to knit a stitch pattern like this, you either knit a sample swatch to practice the pattern and tension, or start with the bonnet which has fewer stitches and allows you to practice first. Build your confidence and skill with the bonnet. Although the P2tog tbl stitch is a bit more difficult to execute in cotton than a stretchier yarn, the yarn has an amazing lustre (pearlescence) that makes it worthwhile.

For those observant types, yes this knitting needle is bent--I didn't notice until after I took the photo.
