Photos in Series

  1. In the first step, the stitch is slipped from from the left hand needle to the right hand needle. The yarn is left behind; the stitch is not knitted.
  2. The second stitch from the left hand needle is slipped over to the right hand needle. Again the unworked yarn is behind; the stitch is not knitted.
  3. The 3rd photograph shows both stitches that were slipped to the right hand needle. In addition, the left hand needle tip is passed knitwise through the stitch furthest from the right hand needle tip--i.e. it is passed through the first stitch that was slipped from the left hand needle to the right hand needle.
  4. The left hand needle now pulls this stitch over the 2nd stitch that was passed to the right hand needle--i.e. it is passed over the stitch closest to the needle tip.
  5. The last step is different depending on whether you are joining the initial round in a sock, or preparing the final knitted row for grafting the toes. Read the full article for details.
