Cable Ankle Socks
Design Features: The 1.5" wide cuff of 2x2 ribbing flows gracefully into an 8 stitch, 6 row cable pattern to give these tan colored ankle socks a timeless elegance. The cable pattern runs the length of the instep from cuff to toe start and features two cable pattern repeats from cuff to heel in back. For comfort and durability, the sock has a French heel.
This was knitted as a variation of the "Basic Sock", with half the stitches (32) knit on each of two circular needles and the following cable stitch pattern.
Cable Stitch Pattern:
Rows 1-5: (P2, K6) across
Row 6: (P2, Cable 6) across
Cable 6: (hold 3 sts to back, knit next 3, then knit 3 from cable).
Yarn: Scheepjes Invicta Extra (Holland) 50 gm, 75% wool, 25% nylon,
fingering weight, color 1415 (beige). Uses a tad over 50 gm of wool. I knitted both the sockettes and these cable ankle socks with two skeins and had plenty of yarn to spare.
Gauge: Stocking stitch (measured in the round) was 7 sts/in, 11 rows/in, knitted with two 2.5 mm circular needles. The original pattern achieved the gauge with 2-3/4" diameter dpns.
