Basic Turning Heel

Having designed and written about the Ridgeline Turning Heel , a crisp, professional looking horizontal heel edge, I thought I'ld discuss a contrasting turning heel pattern. I call this softer, blended heel a basic turning heel. Although both turning heels are discussed in the context of a French heel, they can be used for other heel types as well. In the case of the basic heel, a K2tog (RS) is paired with an ssp (WS). For the ridgeline turning heel an ssk decrease (RS) is paired with a sl, p, PSSO decrease (WS). In the photo at left (basic turning heel), a yarn tracer was used at the turning heel, in case you want to compare it directly with the ridgeline turning heel at right. In the photo at right, directly above the white tracer yarn, the yellow arrow points to the horizontal ridge style line. The basic turning heel doesn't have this feature.
