The slip, purl, PSSO decrease slants to the right on the stocking stitch side of the fabric and is paired with the SSK (slip, slip, knit) decrease which slants to the left on the stocking stitch side. Using this pair of stitches in the Ridgeline Turning Heel creates a crisp, professional looking horizontal edge at the base of the turning heel.

Instructions for the Slip, Purl, PSSO Decrease
Two stitches are combined into one in this decrease.
- Slip the first stitch of the pair purl-wise (as if to purl) from the left hand needle to the right hand needle.
- Purl the second stitch. In the second image, the purl stitch has been formed and the yarn drawn through, but it has not yet been released from the left hand needle to the right hand needle. In image 2b, it has been completed.
- The left hand needle is used to pick up the slipped stitch (image 3a) and pass it over the purled stitch closest to the left hand end of the right hand needle (image 3b). Image 3c shows the completed decrease on the purl side of the fabric.
- The image at the top of the article shows the decrease as it is seen from the stocking stitch side of the fabric.
