Hairpin Lace Tool: This tool is used to create hairpin and broomstick lace. I used it for a decorative sleeve on a sweater. This is more convenient than using dowels of varying diameters.

The tool pictured at left is manufactured by Susan Bates and the bar width is adjustable from 3/4" to 2".
