Neck Warmer

Neck WarmerNeck WarmerWhen I was looking for a green mix yarn, I purchased a hand-painted Koigu yarn from Patternworks and knitted the free Koigu TM Neck Cozy pattern that came with it.

Design Features: Designed by Karen Ko, this compact neck warmer features a travelling rib stitch and garter stitch bow created by passing the leaf-shaped ends through a contiguous knitted loop. This allows a fit as snug as you wish that won't come undone, whatever the activity, reading or walking.

Yarn: Koigu (Canada)
Koigu Painter's Palette Premium Merino (KPPPM), color multi #532, 100% Merino wool, fingering weight, 50 gm (175 yds /160 m).

Discussion: The pattern instructions recommended #5 dpns (3-3/4 mm). I found that I needed 3-1/2 mm (#4) dpns or circular needles to achieve the gauge. I knitted the bows and loop with dpns and the travelling rib with a circular needle. I extended the body length 3/4" to fit my neck. This wonderful, soft yarn was a pleasure to knit with and I ended up making a second cozy as a Christmas gift.

The instructions are straightforward, however row 22 of the pattern had a typographical error. It reads K1, SSK, K2, K2tog, K1, K6, but the last K6 doesn't belong. It should read: K1, SSK, K2, K2tog, K1. I found I had to concentrate for the first few inches of knitting the rib pattern to avoid errors.
