Hugs & Kisses Wrist Warmers

Knit a pair of Hugs and Kisses wrist warmers in an evening, for Valentine's or Mother's Day. This pair of wrist warmers features an "O X O" cable pattern for each wrist and 1" wide 1 x 1 ribbed cuffs. Bernat Satin yarn lends lustre and softness. With 4.0 mm circular needles and worsted weight yarn the wrist warmers knit up as quickly as a swatch. The kiss is centered between two hugs, each embellished with heart shaped buttons. Dimensions: 5-3/4" long x 3-1/4" wide, 1/2" buttons.

Gauge: 4 st / in, with 4.0 mm needles.

Materials:

  1. Yarn: Bernat Satin, 100% Acrylic, 100 g (3.5 oz, ~163 yds), Worsted weight (Medium - 4). The wrist warmers used up the yarn remaining from the 100 gm purchased for the lacy blue, knitted legwarmers.
  2. Tally counter or stitch register.
  3. Two (2) 4.0 mm circular needles, 24".
  4. One darning needle.
  5. One cable needle.
  6. Optional: four 1/2" wide buttons.

Instructions: (refer to Abbreviations section below).

  1. Cast on 28 sts loosely. Join in round. Divide sts among 2 needles, with 16 sts on needle #1, and 12 sts on needle #2.
  2. Knit 1 x 1 ribbing for 1". (k1p1 across both needles)
  3. There are 3 stitch patterns worked for 24 rounds as follows:
    Rounds 4, 16, 20                 Needle #1: P4, C2B, C2F, P4      Needle #2: K across.
    Rounds 8, 12, 24                 Needle #1: P4, C2F, C2B, P4      Needle #2: K across.
    Rounds 1-3, 5-7, 9-11, ...   Needle #1: P4, K8, P4                Needle #2: K across.
  4. Knit 1 x 1 ribbing for 1".
  5. Bind off loosely in pattern.
  6. Weave in yarns ends.
  7. Block. Additional details are found in the article: Blocking a Wrist Warmer.
  8. Attach buttons, if desired. If attaching buttons, add a square of coordinating gross grain ribbon, felt or non-woven reinforcement to the inside of the wrist warmer and sew the button through the yarn and fabric.

Quality Control Tips.

  1. I would recommend using a tally counter or stitch register to keep track of the pattern row and number of rows completed.
  2. By always loading cable stitches from the short arm of the J and knitting them off the long, straight arm you prevent twisting of the stitches. To see photos and read more about the use of the j-hook cable click here: Using a J-hook Cable Needle.
